ICE FIELDS AND SAN RAFAEL GLACIER

The Patagonian Ice Fields are like an enormous lake of ice covering the Andes Mountain Range, except that this lake is not drained by a river, but by various channels of ice called "ventisqueros" or glaciers.

To the South of Puerto Aysén, the San Rafael Glacier flows from the Northern Patagonian Ice Field west toward the sea and empties its ice into the San Rafael Lagoon.

Approaching the great glacial walls by an excursion boat is a unique experience beyond comparison. From here you can feel the movement of the glacier, listen to the frozen mass creak as it shifts, and hear it roar as giant pieces of millenary ice break off and crash into the lagoon.

Awed by the extraordinary beauty of the San Rafael Lagoon, visitors will marvel at the magnificence of The Patagonian glacier surrounded by impenetrable forests and listen to the calling of parrots and sea birds, while sea lions and penguins swim among the icebergs.

Patagonia Connection invites you to enjoy this beautiful experience by travelling by day and in comfort aboard the PATAGONIA EXPRESS Catamaran.
